The Trivision Compass is a mini headend that takes an operator’s set-top boxes, pairs each with a modulator, and delivers a clean channel line-up over a property’s existing coax — so every television simply tunes the channels. One central unit instead of a set-top box on every screen. Run standard analog channels, or upgrade with digital modulators to deliver 1080p HD.

As cable operators migrate to all-digital distribution, every television at a customer site suddenly needs its own set-top box or DTA. In multi-screen environments — sports bars, restaurants, hotels, health and fitness centres, educational and correctional facilities, small communities, and commercial properties — a box on every screen is expensive, hard to manage, and impractical.
The Compass Mini Headend bridges the gap. It combines channels from the operator’s digital set-top boxes with agile analog modulators and delivers those channels over the site’s existing cabling — installed once, at a central location. Every TV tunes the line-up like normal broadcast, and the operator stays fully in control.
Four steps from the operator’s digital feed to a clean analog line-up on every screen.
1
The operator’s cable feed enters the Compass and splits to a bank of digital set-top boxes.
Each STB acts as a dedicated receiver, paired with a modulator — analog for SD, or a digital modulator for 1080p HD.
The modulated channels are combined into a single analog RF line-up on the Compass output.
The line-up travels over the building’s existing coax — every TV tunes the channels directly.
⧉
One central unit delivers channels to every screen over existing coax — no set-top box, no new cabling.
12 channels per unit; stack additional Compass units in the same location for any channel count.
⚡
Trivision-designed STB upgrades auto power-on after an outage, and channel programming stays intact.
≡
Pre-programmed at the operator’s facility before shipment — install needs only Cable In, Cable Out, and AC.
◐
The system runs on the operator’s own STBs and channel authorizations — full control is retained.
◱
Compact chassis mounts on four bolts to a wall or sits on any firm surface. 1-year parts & labour warranty.
Upgrade path
The Compass has long delivered standard-definition analog channels. For HD, add Trivision’s own TBT-8HTQ digital modulator — the same encoder modulator we sell standalone — and the system delivers crisp 1080p HD channels, instead of or alongside the analog line-up. The mini headend and the modulator that powers it are both built by Trivision.
The Compass line matches the set-top boxes your operator runs — from legacy analog delivery to today’s digital boxes.
Compass-12
Built around legacy boxes such as the ARRIS/Motorola DCX700 and Cisco E940, delivering standard-definition analog channels over existing coax.
Compass-10
The revised model for today’s digital set-top boxes — the type deployed by major operators today — and ready for the 1080p HD digital-modulator upgrade.
Add the Compass web module and the operator can manage the entire system from any location — no site visit required.
Each set-top box connects to the Compass with a simple, standard set of RF, video, audio, IR, and power connections. The boxes below are the legacy models used on the Compass-12; the Compass-10 extends the same design to current digital set-top boxes.
Standard connections: cable input, video output, audio out, IR control, and power. Upgraded by Trivision for auto power-on and IR enable/disable.
Same simple connection set. The Compass-10 revision extends the same design to the Rogers digital set-top box.
The Compass has been deployed by a major Canadian cable operator across hotels, sports bars, restaurants, and other multi-screen venues for many years — and remains in active service today. A track record measured in years of continuous, operator-controlled deployment.
Trivision doesn’t just build the Compass — we design your channel line-up, pre-program the system for plug-and-play install, set it up at your central location, and offer optional remote management. See our Mini Headend Systems service.
The HD upgrade is powered by Trivision’s own TBT-8HTQ digital encoder modulator — the same unit we sell standalone for headend and edge-QAM applications. Buy the modulator on its own, or the mini headend it powers.
Tell us your operator, your STB model, and how many screens — and Trivision will scope a Compass system and quote.
